Exercise 1 Records

If you want to help people in need and like great music then dig in your pockets…

What a great idea for a record!

First off it is for a very worthwhile cause; the proceeds going to ‘The Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture’. But rather than this being some huge publicity stunt for some of the biggest bands in the world to boost their sales, which is all band aid amounted to isn’t it really? I mean the cause was there, but it was wrapped in this celebrity self obsessed bollocks that just blinded the whole idea behind it.

Torture is something that still goes on around the world. From the position we occupy in the west we never really understand the extent to which the horrors of torture are still a very real reality in many peoples lives. The brutality and sheer disregard for human suffering and human life is something that we would not wish upon any human being. What the Medical Foundation does is aim to help those victims of torture, from all over the world, providing them with the necessary medical, psychological and social help they need so they can again become active members of society. What the medical foundation needs is exposure. And what better way than with music.

50 minutes is positively bursting with some of the most original and cult contemporary indie music. And to keep in with the central theme, its 50 bands in 50 minutes (get it?). 1 minute for each band… Simple as.

Short bursts of some of the most interesting and quirky pop music from the undergrowth. All you who thought you knew your music may find your ego slightly damaged after a listen to this. Packed with gems such as the streets meets mystery jets stylings of Jeremy Walmsley, the sexy Zelda esque electro of Piney Gir, aswell as The Bobby Mcguees, Chris Mcgrath, El Alto, The Death Set, Hot Puppies, Pandatone, Franc, Daniel Johnston… aww the list goes on, and on, and on, and on.

If it isn’t enough that the money from this reease goes to charity then think of the music as a gift in itself. Once you’ve collected yourself after listening you’ll have a renewed faith in music and feel slightly embittered that you’ve only heard of…erm… five of the bands on this record (I am truly Shit).

So get up and out and grabba hold of this record.
